at Temesak Politechnic
Singapore
The smoke dispersal system at Temesak Polytechnic consists of cable winders with gas struts and pulleys fitted to 48 bottom hung sashes and 2 sets of 4 triangular windows. The gas struts push the windows open to 65 degrees with the cable being fed by the cable winder through the pulleys to ensure a controlled and smooth opening of the sashes. This roof mounted smoke dispersal system is required to be failsafe. The cable winders are powered by battery power pack with trickle charger which is housed with the central control on the ground floor. Reliance on mains power is not required for emergency operation on power failure or fire alarm activation. Control is through a central panel which allows the sashes to be used for smoke dispersal or natural ventilation. Monthly testing is through activation of a control panel switch to simulate smoke alarms. A separate override switch closes the windows when required.
